Test day

today in class we took the test on Rome. I thought it was going to be really hard going into it especially because we had only had the information for a couple days when Mr. Schick had come back. I had prepared really well for this test by going over my notes multiple times and making a quizlet. I think I did pretty well on it so I am happy about that. There were some questions that I had no idea because they were not on the notes I took and I did not remember reviewing them in the powerpoint. For exmaple, I did not know what the word "pater" meant in Latin. Overall I think i did pretty well and I really hope i get a good grade on this test.

Mr. Schick is back

Today in class, Mr. Schick came back from his surgery. I was late to class because I had a dentist appointment and I got chick fil a this morning so that was good. When I got to class we took notes from the rest of the powerpoint that we started the day Mr. Schick left. The notes were on Rome vs. the United States government. Especially focusing on the different branches in government and their differences. For example, Rome had two consuls in power and a dictator if needed for 6 months while the United States had a president and vice.

Day 7

Romans large empire started to fail because of the massive weight of the empire itself. The government started to shut down and they were losing many military battles. I do not think the United States will follow the same pattern as the Roman Empire. The United States has had a strong and influencing government for many many years. The election of Donal Trump sparked some disagreement between people but overall we are still a democratic country that is ruled by the people. Many issues like the civil rights trial and Vietnam war have come through the United States but the country survived many of these hard things. The new administration and ineffectiveness of other branches of the government have posed as issues as well but the United States has come a long way and is not close to declining like the Roman Empire did.

Day 6
1. inflation- a drastic drop in the value of money coupled with a raise in prices
mercenary- foreign soldiers who fought for money, felt little sense of loyalty to the empire
Diocletian- a strong-willed army leader, became the new emperor of Rome in 284 A.D.
Constantinople- The city of Constantine, the new name for the capital
Attila- a powerful chieftain who terrorized both halves of the empire

3. The main internal causes of the fall of the Roman Empire were inflation, serious agricultural problems, destroyed farmland due to wars, and the disarray of the military by the lack of discipline and loyalty.

4. Diocletian succeeded by ruling with an iron fist and fixing the previous problems Rome suffered. He split the entire empire in half and ruled the Eastern part, and he doubled the size of the Roman army.

5. The Germans invaded the Roman Empire because they were fleeing the Huns who had moved into their lands and were destroying their homes.

Day 5
Jesus: A Jew who was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea.
Apostle: 12 men who were Jesus' disciples/pupils
Paul: An apostle who had an enormous development on the development of Christianity.
Diaspora: The dispersal of the Jews.
Constantine: (A.D. 312) Roman emperor who fought three rivals for leadership of Rome.
Bishop: A priest who supervised several local churches.
Peter: Traveled to Rome from Jerusalem and became the first bishop there.
Pope: Peter was the first pope, the father or head of the Christian Church. Whoever was Bishop of Rome was the leader of the whole church.

3. In the early teachings of Jesus, he emphasized God's personal relationship to each human being. He wanted people to know that God loves them and that they should give their love back to God.
4. The Christians faced persecution from the Romans because they would refuse to worship Roman God's which hurt Roman rulers. Along with this, rulers would use them as scapegoats for political and economic troubles. As a result, Romans started to exile, imprison, and execute the Christians.
5. The importance of the Nicene Creed was that it was the first thing to really define the beliefs of the church. There never was anything prior to this that laid the law out clearly for the members of the church.

The rap compared to the textbook

Mr. Schick's rap summarized everything that was mentioned in the textbook. There are many similar things that you can find in the rap. For example, the rap says "Now Tarquin’s kinda proud, But he got a little loud, They turned around and ran that tyrant outta town." This is when Tarquin became too much of an arrogant leader and did some bad things. The people revolted against him and drove him out of power. This encouraged Rome to stay away from a monarchy. Next, "Patricians and plebeians havin’ some fun." This is referencing when the people split into two groups of people. Patricians were the upper rich people in Rome but were only 2% of the people. Everyone else was a plebian who did not have as much power. Another thing the rap says is, "It’s the start of the rise of Julius C. He grabbed two dudes and he formed a team." This is describing when Julius Caesar formed a triumvirate with Crassus and Pompey. The last comparison is when the rap says "He hit the floor, Next thing you know, Caesar’s no more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more." This is referencing the Ides of March when Caesar got stabbed by Brutus and the Senate.
