Notes on Greek Project

We worked on our greek project today and I took some notes about Spartan women in Greece.

  • Similar to the guys, girls were taken from their homes at age 7 and sent to school
    • they learned wrestling, gymnastics, fighting, and other physical training
  • Spartan women did not get married unitl 18-20 but did not live with their husbands until a lot later
    • for the wedding night women cut their hair short and dressed in male clothing
  • women in Sparta had much more freedom and independence than women in other greek city-states
  • mothers had little responsibility for their children and they were not as tied to them as other women.
  • their husbands were also a minor part of their lives
  • even though, some cases were shown where families were close to each other
