My birthday!

It was my birthday today in class I learned that Mr. Schick's daughter has the same birthday as me. Some of the notes we took were:
Hippias was a tyrant from 527-510 Bc.
  • his brother was murdered, rule became harsh
  • expelled from Athens or ostracized
  • he began working with persian king Darius I, helping them invade Marathon
2 aristocrats, Isagoras and Cleithenes, started a power struggle
  • isagoras had support from fellow aristocrats plus from Sparta
  • Cleisthenes had support of majority of Athenians
Isagoras becomes archon eponymous (tyrant)
-ostracizes cleithenes
       -his supporters revolt
-trap Isagorus on the Acropolis for 2 days
-then, the third day he fled and was banished in 508 BC.

Cleisthenes
  • very rich
  • crafty politician
  • saw the value of using talents and energies of middle class
